What is PRP?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a natural regenerative treatment made from your own blood. We take a small sample, around 6 ml, and process it to concentrate the platelets and plasma, which are rich in growth factors. Placed back into the skin or scalp, these growth factors are designed to support collagen production, skin repair and healthier hair follicles. Because it comes from your own body, the risk of an allergic reaction is very low.
At A Aesthetics we offer PRP in Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry for facial rejuvenation, the delicate under-eye area and thinning hair, and to support recovery after a hair or fat transplant. It sits within our range of skin boosters and can also be combined with hyaluronic acid as Cellular Matrix.
What PRP can help with
PRP is a versatile, natural option for both skin and hair. Your practitioner will tailor the treatment to your main concern.
How PRP works
PRP harnesses your body’s own healing processes. Every treatment follows three simple stages.
A small blood sample
We draw around 6 ml of blood from your arm, much like a routine blood test, and it only takes a moment.
Concentrating the platelets
The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma, which holds the growth factors that signal repair.
Delivering it where it is needed
The PRP is placed into the skin, under-eye area or scalp with fine injections, where it is designed to encourage collagen, renewal and healthier hair follicles.
Your PRP treatment, step by step
Consultation
We assess your skin or scalp, talk through your goals and medical history, and confirm PRP is right for you. Your consultation is complimentary.
Blood sample and preparation
We take a small blood sample and prepare your PRP in the clinic. Meanwhile, your skin is cleansed and numbing cream can be applied.
Your treatment
Your practitioner places the PRP precisely into the treatment area using a very fine needle, focusing on the face, under the eyes or the scalp.
Aftercare and results
Mild redness or swelling usually settles within 24 hours. Results build gradually, over 2 to 3 sessions for skin and at least 3 for hair.

PRP FAQs
Does PRP hurt?
Most people describe the discomfort as minimal to mild. The blood sample feels like a routine blood test, and we can apply numbing cream before your treatment so you stay comfortable.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is short. You may have mild redness, swelling or small marks at the injection points, which usually settle within about 24 hours. Occasional light bruising can take a few days to fade.
How many sessions will I need?
For skin, most people have a course of 2 to 3 sessions. For hair, we recommend a minimum of 3 sessions. Sessions are spaced a few weeks apart, and we confirm your plan at your consultation.
When will I see results?
PRP works gradually as your skin or scalp responds. Many patients notice fresher, healthier-looking skin within a few weeks, while changes in hair usually take longer to show and build over the course.
How long do results last?
Results vary from person to person. The effect can build with each treatment, and most patients book occasional maintenance sessions to keep their results.
Who should not have PRP?
PRP is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an active infection in the treatment area. Some blood disorders, blood-thinning medication and other medical conditions also need to be discussed first. We check your full medical history at your consultation.
Can I combine PRP with other treatments?
Yes. PRP can be combined with hyaluronic acid as Cellular Matrix, or used alongside polynucleotides and other skin boosters. We plan the timing so each treatment supports the next.
