What is Excel V+?
Excel V+ by Cutera is a high-powered medical laser designed to treat vascular and pigment concerns. It combines two laser wavelengths, 532 nm and 1064 nm, so it can target redness, thread veins and sun spots precisely while leaving the surrounding skin largely untouched.
We offer Excel V+ in Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry for facial redness and flushing, rosacea, broken capillaries and spider veins, as well as sun damage and age spots on the face and body. For overall skin quality and diffuse redness, we often combine it with Laser Genesis.

How Excel V+ works
Excel V+ combines two wavelengths in one platform, so your practitioner can tailor each treatment to exactly what your skin needs.
Targeting blood vessels
Laser energy is absorbed by the blood in unwanted vessels, gently heating them, which is designed to close them so they can be gradually cleared by your body. The 532 nm wavelength suits fine surface vessels and redness, while 1064 nm reaches larger or deeper veins.
Targeting pigment
The 532 nm wavelength is also absorbed by excess pigment such as sun spots and freckling, which is designed to break it down so it can fade over time.
Built-in cooling
A cooled handpiece protects the surface of your skin with each pulse, helping to keep treatment comfortable and precise.

Preparation
Your skin is cleansed and you wear protective eyewear. We choose the wavelength and settings to match your concern and your skin type.
Your treatment
The handpiece is placed on the skin and delivers short pulses of light. Most patients describe a warm snap, like the flick of an elastic band.
Aftercare and results
You may see some redness or mild swelling for a short time. Wear daily SPF, and results continue to develop over the following weeks.

Does Excel V+ hurt?
Most people describe each pulse as a warm snap against the skin, a little like the flick of an elastic band. The handpiece cools the skin as it works, and sessions are quick.
Is there any downtime?
Little to none. You may notice some redness or mild swelling for a short time, and pigment spots can darken slightly before they fade. Most people return to their normal routine straight away.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your concern. Some individual veins may improve after very few sessions, while rosacea and pigmentation often improve gradually across a short course. We will agree a plan with you at your consultation.
When will I see results?
Results develop over the following weeks as your body clears the treated vessels or pigment. New redness or sun spots can appear over time, so occasional maintenance and daily SPF help you keep your results.
How is Excel V+ different from Laser Genesis?
Laser Genesis is designed to improve overall skin quality and diffuse redness. Excel V+ targets specific visible veins, more defined redness and pigmentation. Many patients benefit from both, and we will advise which suits you.
Is Excel V+ suitable for my skin type?
Excel V+ can treat a wide range of skin types, but settings must be chosen carefully, particularly for darker skin tones or a recent tan. It may not be suitable during pregnancy or if you take medication that makes your skin sensitive to light, so we check this at your consultation.
Can I combine Excel V+ with other treatments?
Yes. It pairs well with Laser Genesis for overall skin quality, MediLux LED therapy to calm the skin, and professional skincare to support your results at home. We will plan the timing with you.
