What is lip filler dissolving?
Lip filler dissolving uses a prescription enzyme to break down hyaluronic acid filler that has moved, formed lumps or simply does not look the way you hoped. The enzyme speeds up the natural process your body already uses to clear hyaluronic acid, so unwanted filler softens and disperses over the following hours and days.
At A Aesthetics we offer lip filler dissolving in Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry for filler placed here or at another clinic. Because this is a prescription medicine, it is only prescribed after a face-to-face consultation, which includes an allergy test. Once your lips have settled, we can talk about whether fresh, carefully placed dermal filler is right for you. You can also read more about when dissolving is recommended.
What lip filler dissolving can help with
Dissolving is an established way to correct filler that is not working for you, carried out under medical supervision. Your practitioner will assess your lips carefully and explain whether a full or partial dissolve is best.
How lip filler dissolving works
Dissolving is precise and carefully controlled, so only the unwanted filler is treated.
Assessing the filler
We examine your lips to find where the filler sits, how much has moved and whether a full or partial dissolve will give the most natural result.
Targeted placement
Small amounts of the prescription enzyme are placed with a fine needle exactly where the unwanted filler lies, preserving your natural lip structure.
Breaking it down
The enzyme begins working within minutes. Swelling settles over the next day or two and the full result is usually clear within a few days.
Your lip filler dissolving treatment, step by step
Consultation
We assess your lips, ask about your previous filler and medical history, and explain what dissolving can achieve. A prescription is only issued after this face-to-face consultation.
Allergy test
A small test is carried out first to check that you do not react to the enzyme. This helps keep your treatment as safe as possible.
Your treatment
The enzyme is placed with a fine needle into the areas of unwanted filler. The injections take only a few minutes, and you may feel a brief sting.
Aftercare and results
Some swelling for up to 48 hours is normal. We review your lips once they have settled and advise whether a second session or fresh filler is needed.

Lip filler dissolving FAQs
Does dissolving lip filler hurt?
Most people find it manageable. You may feel a brief sting as the enzyme is placed, and the area can feel tender or swollen for a short while afterwards.
Is there any downtime?
Swelling and some tenderness for up to 48 hours are normal, as is the occasional small bruise. Most people return to their usual routine straight away, and we give you simple aftercare advice.
How quickly does it work?
The enzyme starts breaking down filler within minutes. Once the initial swelling has settled, the result is usually clear within a few days.
Will I need more than one session?
Many people need just one session, but larger amounts of filler, or filler that has been in place for a long time, may need a second. We review your lips before recommending any further treatment.
Is the result permanent?
Filler that has been broken down is cleared by your body and does not return. The enzyme works for a short time only, so after a suitable gap we can discuss fresh filler if you would like it.
Who should not have filler dissolved?
Treatment is not suitable if you are allergic to the enzyme (which is why we test first), during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is an infection in the area. Because it is a prescription medicine, your prescriber will review your medical history face to face before any treatment.
Can I have new filler afterwards?
Yes, once your lips have fully settled. We will plan a subtle, balanced result with dermal filler, and skin boosters may also improve lip hydration without adding volume.
